Instagram has changed the way the world works. I thought might as well write a blog about it.
‘INSTAGRAM MADE ME DO IT!’ or ‘INSTAGRAM MADE ME BUY IT!’, that’s something I have heard a lot lately. Moreover, one of the first independent purchases that Generation Z engage into are related to clothing items. The huge number of Instagram paid promotions and ads while scrolling through Instagram plays a huge role in this process of impulse buying. “It’s pictures, it’s imagery, and like you see it and you want it", this is usually the thought process. Young people use fashion purchases to express themselves which leads to impulse buying. Researches show that 41% of Generation Z consumers are impulse buyers. They desire newest items at a greater speed, having the latest fashion trends/trending clothes for women and men, are a point of validation, expression and acceptance. Thus, brands have to develop marketing strategies to satisfy the needs of this target audience. As Generation Z has grown along the internet, the engagement in social media platforms is a norm for them to seek for inspiration. This consumer has an increasingly persuasive power on their peer and family members when making purchases.
This platform obviously has their good influences and bad influences. I don’t think I remember going out with friends and them or me not wanting ‘Instagram Post-worthy’ photos, I even remember clicking around 100+ photos for them to choose from. Keeping in mind the growth of the TikTok platform at first followed by the huge blow up of Instagram Reels, have influenced every aspect of our lives, whether it be doing a business online, providing information, social aspects of one's life or for entertainment purposes; spending hours making reels with the latest trends, music, dances has become habitual. The good affects may be that in the recent years, it has also influenced our lifestyle ever since the growth of having healthy habits like eating healthy, the innumerous free workout tips and reels available to keep ourselves fit by being inspired looking at those fitness videos. This platform has also been very informative by providing pages that teach investment, provide us with the latest news and happenings in the world.
Social media have been growing rapidly during the past decade to connect with one another. Instagram is considered to be one of the fastest-growing social media. I believe how Instagram affects one depends on how they use the platform. Its not necessarily supposed to be good or bad for everyone.
